

ACT Government Domain Names (act.gov.au)
This information is provided for ACT government agencies requesting a new ACT Government domain name or modifying existing details, such as Domain Name Servers.
ACT Government domain names are those ending with .act.gov.au
The InTACT Policy Office will continue to administer act.gov.au domain names on behalf of ACT Government Agencies and pays the registration fees ($62 per registration for a two (2) year period) for new and existing act.gov.au domain names.
Registering a new Domain Name
- Check the availability of your suggested domain name at domainname.gov.au using their whois facility.
- Please read the Government Domain Policies before proceeding. These policies apply to ACT Government domain names.
- The Eligibilty and Allocation Policy covers issues such as:
- Domain names must bear a direct semantic connection to the stated purpose
- ACT Government domain names are not issued for personal or commercial use
- Registration requests must be supported by your Agency Chief Executive
- Send the ACT Government Domain Provider (kerrya.webb@act.gov.au) an e-mail message detailing:
- The domain name requested
- The reason why the domain name is needed (new project, new agency etc)
- A statement that the Agency Chief Executive has approved the name

Domain Name Server changes or changing ISPs
- Policy Office staff will update Domain Name entries held at AusRegistry on your behalf.
- Policy Office staff require a minimum of two Domain Name Server entries before the change can be applied, eg dns1.optus.com.au & dns2.optus.com.au
- Changes are usually applied during business hours.
